Pokémon Delta Reign: Release Date, Chase Cards, and What Not to Overpay For

Prereleases for the next big Pokémon set start today. Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Delta Reign, the sixth main Mega Evolution expansion, hits retail on November 6, 2026, and it is headlined by the first Mega Rayquaza ex in the TCG since the XY era. If you are deciding whether to play early, buy sealed, or just wait for singles, here is the straight version — dates, products, chase cards, and the preorder trap to avoid.

When does Delta Reign come out?

  • Prerelease events: October 24 – November 1, 2026, at participating Play! Pokémon stores
  • Pokémon TCG Live: November 5, 2026
  • Retail release: November 6, 2026

Prerelease players get a Build & Battle Box with four packs and a 40-card deck, plus one of four foil prerelease promos: Masquerain, Magmortar, Enamorus, or Kommo-o. If you want to play the set early, that is the way to do it — prerelease is a play event, not a second launch day.

Delta Reign is the English version of Japan's Storm Emeralda, which released July 31, 2026, plus cards from the 2026 MEGA Starter Decks. That matters because we already have months of Japanese price data on the same cards, and it tells a clear story about what people actually want from this set.

What is in the set?

The Pokémon Company describes Delta Reign as over 135 cards, including:

  • 4 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex: Mega Rayquaza ex, Mega Golisopod ex, Mega Golurk ex, Mega Malamar ex
  • 6 other Pokémon ex
  • 14 Illustration Rares, 17 Ultra Rares, and 6 Special Illustration Rares
  • 3 Legendary Stadiums, printed as 6 Stadium cards
  • More than 20 Trainer cards

The new mechanic is the Legendary Stadium: two Stadium cards that share a name and form one continuous illustration when placed side by side. A pack that contains a Legendary Stadium contains both halves, so you will not pull one half and have to hunt for the other. The first one revealed in English is Legendary Summit.

Mega Rayquaza ex itself is a Basic Mega Evolution ex with 280 HP. Its Ability, Ruler's Roar, attaches a Basic Energy from the top four cards of your deck when you bench it, and its attack, Storm Emeralda, does 50 damage for each Fire Energy and each Lightning Energy attached to all of your Pokémon. That mixed-energy cost is why players are taking this card seriously, not just collectors.

The chase cards

The chase is not close. In Japan's Storm Emeralda, Mega Rayquaza ex sits at the top of the market in both its Special Illustration Rare and its gold Mega Ultra Rare form, well clear of everything else in the set. English prices will not copy the Japanese numbers on day one, but the ranking should hold: the Rayquaza SIR and the gold Mega Ultra Rare are the cards people will open this set to find.

The next tier, based on the Japanese print, is Raikou ex special art, Zinnia's Trust special art, Mega Golisopod ex special art, and Mega Golurk ex special art. Zinnia's Trust is the Trainer card most likely to matter to players and collectors at the same time.

One honest warning: pull rates are not published. Do not budget a booster box around hitting the Mega Ultra Rare. A 36-pack box is the largest sample of the set, and it is still a long shot.

Every Delta Reign product, at list price

Prices below are reported distributor MSRPs. Retailers are not required to sell at these prices, and right now most are not — see the next section.

  • Booster pack: about $4.49 — 10 cards plus a Basic Energy and a Live code
  • Checklane blister: about $5.50 — one pack plus a promo and coin
  • 3-pack blister: about $13.99
  • Build & Battle Box: $21.99 — four packs, a 40-card deck, and a prerelease promo
  • Booster Bundle: $26.94 — six packs, nothing else
  • Elite Trainer Box: $49.99 — nine packs plus the Kyogre Illustration Rare promo, 65 sleeves, 40 Energy cards, a player's guide, dice, coin, dividers, and a Live code
  • Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box: $59.99 — eleven packs, a stamped Kyogre promo, and a second unstamped Kyogre
  • Booster box: $161.64 — 36 packs

The ETB promo deserves a note of its own. The Kyogre Illustration Rare does not appear in booster packs — it is an ETB exclusive. If you want that specific card, the ETB is the only sealed route to it, and the Pokémon Center version (two extra packs and a stamped promo for $10 more at list) is the best value in the line at MSRP. It is also the first SKU to sell out.

Do not pay today's preorder prices

This is the part that saves you real money. As of October 21, 2026, TCGplayer market data had Delta Reign preorders trading far above list: the standard Elite Trainer Box at $106.29 against a $49.99 MSRP, the Pokémon Center ETB at $369.48 against $59.99, the booster box at $238.91 against $161.64, and the Booster Bundle at $66.46 against $26.94.

We just watched this exact pattern play out with the last set. Six weeks before Pitch Black released, its Elite Trainer Box was at $123, its booster box at $276, and its Pokémon Center ETB at $589. Ten weeks after release, they were at $77, $186, and $117 — drops of 37%, 32%, and 80%. Delta Reign's preorder prices are sitting right where Pitch Black's were.

That does not mean Delta Reign will fall as far. The Mega Rayquaza chase is real, and this set could stay hotter than Pitch Black did. But paying double or more for a main set that has not shipped yet is a bet that allocation fails — not a deal. If you can buy at MSRP, buy. If you cannot, wait for release-week restocks before paying a markup, and remember the singles math from our last article: when a set's singles soften after release, buying the exact card you want outright beats gambling on packs for it almost every time.

So what should you actually do?

Playing prerelease this weekend? Book a slot at your local game store and enjoy the Build & Battle format. It is the cheapest way to play the set early, and the promo is event-tied.

Opening for Mega Rayquaza ex? A booster box at MSRP is your best per-pack shot, and the ETB at MSRP is the best gift and the only sealed route to the Kyogre promo. Anything far above list is a premium you should only pay if you already know why.

Just want one or two cards for your binder? Wait for singles. English singles prices are not known until after November 6, and they almost always settle below release-week hype. Buy the card, not the gamble.

Collecting the set? Keep Legendary Stadium pairs together on the same binder page — the art only reads correctly as a pair — and sleeve and toploader any big pull the day you open it. A card's condition on day one is the condition that decides its grade later.
